AIGS Canada’s feedback and recommendations on the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s Policy on Service and Digital and the Directive on Automated Decision-Making (DADM) addresses critical gaps in the oversight of advanced AI systems at federal institutions in Canada, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring, enhanced human oversight, mandatory safety cases, and scenario planning. AIGS Canada advocates for safeguards that are comparable to ones used in the safety-critical fields of nuclear power and aviation considering the highly adverse outcomes such systems can give rise to. These proposals aim to foster safe, equitable, and effective governance of advanced AI in high-stakes public domains. The submission is available for download on the AIGS Canada website.
