About
Mario Gibney is the Founder and Executive Director of Trajectory Labs, Toronto’s AI safety co-working space.
With a humanities education and a career that began as a schoolteacher, Mario became increasingly interested in technological development throughout his twenties, largely due to the growth of the bitcoin and AI sectors.
Starting in 2018, he spent five years working for early-stage startups in the bitcoin industry. In 2023, he became increasingly concerned by the rapid pace of advances in AI capabilities and the relative lack of development in AI safety.
Mario decided to apply to AI safety the community-building skills he had acquired while working in the bitcoin industry, along with his passion for teaching. He started by creating the first AI safety Meetup in Toronto and, shortly after, joined Wyatt to work full-time on co-founding AIGS.
Mario most enjoys introducing new people to the field of AI safety and communicating technical concepts in simple, clear terms.
